Hindi Movies of 2010

So the Award season is on again like every year there will be millions of awards will be bestowed upon many undeserving super stars along with some deserving artists/technicians. Some great directors such as Sazid Khan, Anees Bazmi etc will be in the Jury of these awards.

I feel very sad (actually pissed off) when I see different winners for best film and best director category. I mean how that is possible. I mean it’s like saying to some painter that your paintings are not best but you are best. I simply don’t get it. So I decided that I will decide my own list of best films and then of course the director of these movies are best directors of 2010 as per my opinion.

As per Wikipedia a total of 122 Hindi films were released in the year of 2010 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hindi_films_2010). I must have seen at least 40 of them so that makes it one third of the total movies released. Since I am not in the Jury of any award so I had the pleasure of watching the movies of my choice. So this list is out of those one third movies.
Disclaimer: All the names mentioned in this list are purely based on my liking. There is no sold name in this list (I don’t think that someone will pay me although I’m ready if someone want to :)).

So these are my top favorite movies of the year in the order of release date. I am not eligible to say that this one is number 1 or number 2 but I enjoyed watching these movies and can watch again and again. One thing to note that the directors of all these movies are either the writer or co-writer so they at least knew what they were up to :)

It was one of those movie I was eagerly waiting since the trailer got out. Trailer was amazing and so was the fillamm. Everything in the movie was great, performances, music, locations, camera but the best part was the dialogues. It had many gems like “Duniya main sabse badi dushmani miyan biwi ki hoti hai” and “Tumhara Ishq ishq aur humara ishq sex”. What a start to the year.

A very nice movie setup in early 90’s in Mumbai. Great performances from Sidharth, Aditya Pancholi and Ankur Vikal. All the character looked very real and a tight story around the game of Carom. Cool cool cool.

Love Sex Aur Dhokha
Writer
: Dibakar Banerjee, Kenu Behl
Director: Dibakar Banerjee
I am a huge fan of Dibakar Banerjee. And why not he is the only ‘Bedag’ director apart from VB and Sreeram Raghvan. LSD is now a cult classic in hindi movies. 3 different stories shot in handy cam style and still all three stories are related. So real characters and so real stories but not at the cost of entertainment. And it has one of the coolest starring in recent past. Dibakar Sir take a bow.

Perhaps the most pleasant surprise of the year. There was no hype and no expectation around this movie. But movie is required none of it. A wonderful movie again with very good performances and dialogues. Such a sensitive topic was handled with such ease and without any controversy which is commendable. And Pakistan created in Hyderabad again proved that basically no difference in these two countries.

A beautiful movie. The coming to age story, a step brother a supportive uncle and ‘Kamina Baap’. Ronit Roy proved his acting talent with this flick and in my opinion his is one of the best performances of the year.

One movie which entertain you and at the same time makes you think. There’s really a very broad gap between urban and rural India. Media, Politics, babus, police and we the people all were telecasted from ‘Peepli Live’

Dabangg
Writer: Dileep Shukla, Abhinav Kashyap
Director: Abhinav Kashyap
This is an unashamedly masala movie and we the Indian like masala. Salman khan rocked and it was his movie out and out. We’ll soon see more Tamil genre of action comedy movies in coming time. But whether they will be as entertaining? That’s a question.

I could so relate to the characters of this movie. They were so real and their stories were also very real. Rishi kapoor and Neetu were awesome and it was really good to see Delhi which I know. My appeal to all my friends who has missed this one please get the DVD and watch it.

Phas Gaye Re Obama
Writer

Director: Subhash Kapoor
One more gem from Rajat kapoor and gang. Really funny movie, great performances from Manu Rishi and Amol Gupte. Checkout the scene from English speaking class you will have a good lough.

Band Baaja Baaraat
Writer: Maneesh Sharma
Director: Maneesh Sharma
Yes it’s a Yash Raj movie, yes it also has punjaabi characters, yes it also has wedding songs but still this is different. Shruti Kakkar and Bitto Sharma were real and so was the Delhi. Good performances from the lead pair and supporting cast. Really worth a watch.

So the list ends here. Some other movies which I liked but could not include in this list are: Well Done Abba, Rakt Charitra - 1, Athithi Tum Kab Jaoge, Road To Sangam, Aisha, City Of Gold and Once Upon a time in Mumbai.

That concludes the good part now below are some movie which were a huge let down for me. I had some expectation from these movie but was disappointed. I am just giving the names reason you all know
Lamhaa – Rahul Dholakia
Kites – Anurag Basu
Rajneeti – Prakash Jha
Raavan – Mani Ratnam
